The Holistic Therapies

I offer a wonderful selection of blissful holistic therapies. Choose from:

Western Massage Therapy

Holistic (Swedish) Body Massage

Massage can be traced back to China in 3,000 BC.  Holistic massage uses a range of movements that soothe and relax muscles of the whole body. It treats a wide range of muscular and skeletal-related conditions, and on a deeper level it encourages better circulation, lymph drainage and removal of cellular waste. It can help with digestive complaints, fatigue, insomnia, low immunity and many more conditions.

Holistic - also known as Swedish - Massage involves the manipulation of the body’s soft tissue (i.e. the skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments) using the hands in a gentle, flowing massage technique that uses varying degrees of pressure and stretching movements. It is most commonly used for relaxation, improving well-being and lymphatic drainage.  I use firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create other health benefits such as reduced anxiety. Holistic Massage promotes a sense of relaxation and well being, improving blood circulation and delivering oxygen and nutrients to the cells.  It can also help prevent and relieve muscle cramps and spasms, and with pain management in conditions such as arthritis and sciatica.

The Benefits of Holistic Body Massage:

  • Reduction in muscle spasm, pain and tension

  • Release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers

  • Relaxation and therefore reduction in anxiety

  • Improved blood circulation

  • Improved lymphatic drainage

  • Improved mobility

  • Reduction of swelling caused by an accumulation of fluid in the tissues

  • Balancing the overall flow of natural life energy through the body

  • Inducing a feeling of well-being through the comfort of human touch

Eastern Massage Therapy

Thai Foot Massage

Thai Foot Massage is a massage of the lower legs and feet that involves hands on stretching and massage to “open” Sen (energy) Lines, along with the use of the thumb or knuckle to stimulate the reflex points on the feet which correspond to the internal organs of the body. Thai Foot Massage stimulates these points to promote general health and well-being. Thailand has evolved as a centre for massage, partly due to geographical location and partly to the peoples’ predisposition towards massage, with traditional techniques from India and China diverging in Thailand to give us Traditional Thai Massage and Thai Foot Massage.  Thai Foot Massage takes it’s origins from China where the art has been practiced for over 5000 years, and Thai Foot Massage, as seen everywhere in Thailand today, has developed from Chinese, Japanese, and Korean foot masseuses.  Thai Foot Massage stimulates the internal organs, giving the receiver a holistic treatment.

Japanese Hand Massage

Japanese Hand Massage is a unique blend of shiatsu and reflexology. Shiatsu (Japanese from shi, meaning finger, and atsu, meaning pressure) is a traditional Japanese healing art. It has its roots in ancient Oriental medicine and has evolved from traditional Chinese medicine and Anma, a traditional Japanese form of massage. The philosophy underlying Shiatsu is that vital energy (Qi in Chinese, Ki in Japanese) flows throughout the body in a series of channels called meridians. For many different reasons Ki can stop flowing freely and this then produces a symptom.   Anyone who has ever experienced a good hand massage will sigh with pleasure at the recollection. Our hands are one of the most overused parts of our body and work very hard, but in general they are sadly neglected.   Don't miss one of the greatest little physical luxuries one can experience - a hand massage.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is an extremely effective therapy that has evolved from traditional techniques practised in India as part of family rituals for over a thousand years. The technique I practice is true to the original massage brought over to the UK from India.  The treatment involves massaging you through your clothes to your upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, face and scalp while you remain seated in an upright position.  This massage works on particular areas of the body, especially the neck and the shoulders where stress affects major muscle groups, and it often brings immediate relief. Tensions are eased and fibrous knots and nodules melt away. The efficiency of the circulatory and lymphatic systems improves, toxins are dispersed from tense muscles and flexibility and fluidity of movement is restored.  An Indian Head Massage is done with you sitting in a comfortable chair for the duration of the massage, Treatment normally begins with a massage of the neck and shoulders, some work to the arms follows and then the scalp is massaged and the hair briskly tussled and gently combed.

Eastern Facial Massage

This massage incorporates a unique blend of highly effective techniques drawn from both Indian Face Massage (also know as Facial Rejuvenation or the Natural Facelift) and Japanese Face Massage.   Eastern Facial Massage involves a sequence of techniques which act as a natural facelift with no need for surgery, helping you look (and often feel!) younger. We all have tension which builds up in our facial muscles and many of us would love to reduce wrinkles, so it’s not surprising that this is a very popular and sought-after treatment. The Japanese influence involves the facial meridians and acupressure points (tsubos) which can affect the balance of health in the whole body, as well as the specific flow of energy, or Ki, in the face.  Eastern Facial Massage uses a combination of techniques to improve the complexion, remove toxins from the face, prevent and remove facial wrinkles and age spots and balance the emotions and ki, or life force, which helps to improve overall health. Eastern Facial Massage produces the equivalent of an acupuncture face-lift without the insertion of needles!  Unlike facial surgery, Eastern Facial Massage has no ill side effects and is a very effective method of facial care.   This advanced method of traditional facial massage treats surface and deep facial tissues with highly refined, gentle hand manipulation.

Reiki Therapy

As a qualified Reiki practitioner I channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonise. Unlike other healing therapies based on the premise of a human energy field, Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced.  Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.  Although there are a few positions in which the practitioner is in contact with the patient (such as cradling the head), most Reiki treatments do not involve actual touching. The practitioner holds his or her hands a few inches or farther away from the patient's body and manipulates the energy field from there.  Whole-body Reiki is used to treat the whole body to achieve relaxation. It facilitates the removal of blockages in energy flow and the dispersal of toxins.  Long-term practice of whole-body Reiki will restore the general condition of the body. The energy channels are opened to allow the body to deal properly and naturally with both stress and the build-up of toxins. It will help you to cope with anxiety and depression.  Reiki therapy is also useful when you are recovering from an illness. Reiki will provide the additional energy required to recover from the illness. It will also reinforce the effects of any other method of natural healing. It can be used as a supplementary therapy, as it is a truly complementary system of treatment.  Please note that a Reiki Therapy session does not include massage.
